Profit from your site

Earning a profit from your site can be tricky. It is best to decide what kind of product you are going to sell, then decide what your target audience will be. For example, you wouldn't try to sell rock CD's to a funeral home, would you? It's the point that you must know your market if you expect to reach your market.

One of the greatest allegories ever heard was that a person could "sell ice to an eskimo". While this is not necessarily PC (a pardon and tip of the hat to our Eskimo demographic), it is still true with some people. This is not the case with others. Some have to truly believe in a product in order to sell it. That is one of my goals here at BrainStorm - to help you realize your dreams through your website, and to give you something that you are truly proud of. I believe that a good word from a customer to a potential customer is worth more than 6 months of advertising.

The first site I ever built was for a friend of mine. It was horribly putrid and truly deserving of the highest rank on Web Pages That Suck. I had been into web design for all of about 3 weeks when I took the project on, and it really showed. There were so many animated GIF's floating around, and little FrontPage banners (I know, I know...), it was ridiculous. The site went absolutely nowhere. It literally went backwards, actually. Around this time, I was starting an HTML class at Herzing College and had taken a step back and looked at the site from another view and hooooooooboy, did it stink! I completely redesigned the site from top to bottom. I kept almost none of the same content or graphics, and I introduced these amazing things called "style sheets" (wow!) and "templates" (wonder of wonders!). This made it a lot easier to change things that needed to be changed quickly. At any rate, this site turned out to be over 200 pages. HUGE. Since the site had never been advertised by the owner, it never reached any semblence of popularity at all. Eventually, they shut the site down and walked away from a goldmine. The domain name was bought shortly after and pointed to another domain, which enjoyed nice returns on the name.

The point is this: if you put time, energy, and money into a website, you expect a return on that investment. I am here to help that reality come true. One of the reasons why I called this company BrainStorm is because I really enjoy the process of brainstorming to come up with new and exciting ideas or ways something can be done. One of the main things that gets your website from point A to point B is the brainstorming process that you and I will go through.
